Kuwait Cultural Office (à Paris)

June 15, 2011

When we—myself and other students from Kuwait University—first came to France, being students enrolled in the Erasmus program,we were told that our program will be treated as a scholarship, meaning we will have a monthly salary from Kuwait Cultural Office located in Paris. To get the money, however, we had to open a French bank account where we truly faced a language barrier. French people do not speak English (I’d say out of shyness and/or lack of English skills, rather than a race thing); we, on the other hand, do not speak French (like, AT ALL! Not even a single proper statement).

Due to this problem, plus the fact that we needed money especially at the beginning, for the apartment rental contract and other settlement stuff, we needed money urgently (well, I personally had quite enough money  back then collected from my part-time job, but we were told we will get that scholarship thing, so..). Therefore we phoned the Cultural Office of Kuwait and they responded in a really responsible way. They called us the day after and sent us code numbers, which are cash transfer codes to be used through the French post office (by the way, they have pretty good post system there!). That was something we really admired, and is a credit for the Cultural Office of Kuwait in Paris and whoever is working there.

Anyways, I like to capture pictures and see them after a long time. It recalls nice memories. Here’s a picture of the handwritten paper for the money transfer codes for me and other two girls who came with me from Kuwait.
